Shropshire Ornithological Society

The Shropshire Ornithological Society’s (SOS) main nature reserve at Venus Pool is only a short distance from the CJ WildBird Foods UK office, which makes it a very convenient test site. Our two organisations have worked together over many years, which is a further advantage of the site.

We carry out a variety of research involving foods, feeders, insects and nest boxes, and the SOS also participate in wider collaborations with other organisations. The end result is a very positive association for all concerned.

As well as providing nest boxes for the resident bats and Tree Sparrows (Passer montanus) current trials include nest boxes for Barn Owls (Tyto alba), Little Owl (Athene noctua), Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) and even nesting platforms for Ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) which were kindly supplied by Severn Trent Water (the world’s fourth largest privately-owned water company).
