CJ WildBird Foods and our Dutch sister company, Vivara, are passionate about wild birds and wildlife. The company, which sells wild bird and wildlife care products, was set up, and is still run, by ornithologists and wildlife experts.
The UK, Republic of Ireland and USAare served under the CJ Wildlife brand, with Vivara currently trading in seven countries in mainland Europe.
Our mission is “to make significant, recognisable contributions to the protection and welfare of wild birds and other wildlife”
Currently, in partnership with a range of wildlife associations, we are running 29 Europe-wide research projects and sponsoring a further 28 UK-based projects including post-graduate assignments at several Universities.
We have a well-established reputation for research and are privileged to be working alongside so many wildlife associations across Europe.
All this research helps us make informed decisions about the products and foods we sell, which means we can feed and care for a wider range of garden birds and wildlife.
In fact, we offer a wide range of well-researched and designed, premium quality products – everything from bird food, feeders and nest boxes to books, multi-media, and a dedicated children’s section. Not to mention products for garden mammals, insects and pond life such as Hedgehog Nest Boxes, Bee Nest Tubes and Toad Houses.
Wild birds and wildlife care is our passion and our raison d’etre. Over the last 20 years we have driven many of the improvements and product innovations that are now available in the market:
- Introduced black sunflower seeds, sunflower hearts and Nyjer seed to the UK as major new bird foods
- Developed specialist seed mixes for use in tubular feeders
- Developed and patented a new concept in energy-rich peanut cakes
- Introduced the idea of year-round feeding and developed suitable summer foods
- Instrumental in persuading the RSPB to endorse year-round feeding in gardens
- Developed patented feeder designs that have been adopted by the RSPB and by Droll Yankee, the market leaders in the USA
- Extended the range of foods available through a foods development program so that over 80 common species of wild birds can now be fed in gardens, compared to 18 when CJs started
